Ecological Architecture

This Ecological Architecture course provides an in-depth exploration of building science topics related to sustainable buildings. Through a combination of lectures, workshops, and hands-on projects, students will learn the fundamental scientific principles underlying these phenomena and gain practical experience with technologies and analytical techniques for designing comfortable and energy-efficient indoor environments. The course covers a broad range of topics, including climate analysis, solar energy, heat transfer, natural ventilation, HVAC systems, renewable energy, acoustics, biophilic design, landscape design, and water systems. Students will apply these principles in real-world scenarios, learning to integrate energy, light, and sound considerations into architectural design to enhance building performance and occupant comfort.

Building Performance Simulation

2024 Fall


The Building Simulation course provides an in-depth exploration of advanced simulation techniques used in the design and analysis of sustainable buildings. This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to leverage computational tools for optimizing building performance in terms of energy efficiency, thermal comfort, lighting, and acoustics. Throughout the semester, students will engage with a variety of simulation software, including Climate Studio, EnergyPlus, Radiance, CFD and other tools, to model and assess building designs. The course will cover fundamental concepts such as building energy modeling, daylighting analysis, natural ventilation, and thermal comfort. Students will also learn to interpret simulation results to make informed design decisions with optimization and design exploration techniques.
